Whatever you think about the Royal Family – you may be a fan or not – the birth of any baby is always great news and a huge blessing for the parents and the family concerned. No doubt this little Royal baby will be spoilt rotten, in the nicest possible way. Did you know that according to Mintel (February 2011), approximately £753 million is spent on baby and nursery equipment every year? The baby industry is a huge industry to be part of and there’s lots of profit to be made. A top of the range Bugaboo pram (which all the celebrities have to have at the moment – Victoria Beckham, Sienna Miller, James Cordon and Elton John to name just four!) will set you back a mere £1200 and it’s rumoured that the Duchess of Cambridge has purchased one.
The great thing about babies, if you are a retailer, is that it doesn’t matter what time of year it is, they don’t go out of fashion. There’s always a demand for baby goods – clothes, toys, accessories and equipment. So if you’re looking for an idea for a new business, maybe that’s a way forward.
We’re constantly amazed by the array of products that designers come up with for babies. Take the bootees at the top of this page. These are Nike baby bootee gift sets! Perhaps more fitting for the offspring of our sports superstars rather than Royalty, but nonetheless, a fabulous concept. Find them here . We also have in stock at the moment some lovely Disney slippers with Winnie the Pooh and Tigger here You will get 24 pairs for only £72 which works out at £3 per pair. That’s a great deal for those of you looking to make a quick profit. The Royal baby is being born right into the middle of a heat wave (I hope I haven’t jinxed it now!) and it’s vitally important that parents and carers keep their kids safe from the sun’s rays. What better way to do that than with these little pink caps – they’re 100% cotton with an elasticated back that can be adjusted to fit. They rock. There are other great items you can stock as additional accessories for babies. Take this Job lot of 68 mixed Baby Products and Equipment for example here. I’m particularly taken with the ‘What to explain when you are expecting book’ because it’s always useful to have extra ideas of things to say to your slightly older children who may not buy the whole stork story you try and fend them off with to explain Mum’s growing bump. Also in this package you get mobiles, comforters and a steriliser. We also have the Job Lot of 73 mixed Baby and Children toys and equipment which includes soft toys, the fabulous sari doll puppet, umbrella, baby steriliser and baby carriers! Any Royal baby worth their salt is going to have plenty of opportunity to travel, so I think the sari puppet doll is an excellent present. Perhaps Prince William will buy it from you?
So, among our children’s job lots there are absolutely loads of goodies. I think the really good thing about stocking baby and children items is that your displays always look colourful and interesting and they catch the eye easily, which is exactly what you want.
So, what do you think the Royal baby should be called? Let me know below. Keep it pleasant please – I’d still like my knighthood 😉
